AZSAB member Sanan Suleymanli took initiative to organise an Azerbaijani Culture Evening at Delft Technology University.
The name of the event was “Explore Azerbaijan” and Azerbaijani culture, dances, music, history and national dishes were introduced to the students of the university.
The event began with a presentation and video about Azerbaijan. Then the guests tasted delicious Azerbaijani dishes and right after that listened to our national music performed live. Also, 15 interesting quizzes were held about Azerbaijan and more than 15 participants won gifts. The most memorable part of the evening was that Bakhtiyar bey performed the famous song of Muslim Magomayev “Azerbaijani” and more than 100 students from 20 countries sang riff part altogether.

We are proud to have Sanan as an active member in AZSAB. He’s studying at TU Delft with the SOCAR scholarship and special thanks to SOCAR for the financial support, and Azerbaijani families, other AZSAB members for organisational supports.

The establishment of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on May 28, 1918 was a historic event and one of the glorious pages in our history. The ADR was not only the first democratic and secular republic in the Muslim and Turkic world, but also one of the first republics given voting right to the women and securing the equality between men and women.

Unfortunately, our independence was interrupted in 1920, when it was invaded by Russian Bolshevists, and forcefully incorporated into the USSR in 1922 to restore its independence only in 1991.

For the anniversary, we decided to organize an event with the students and Azerbaijani families in the Hague in order to celebrate it on the 28th of May.
Here we are grateful to The “Motherland” Union of Azerbaijani Women of the Netherlands, “Azerbaijani-Turkish Cultural Association” in the Netherlands and Azerbaijani families living in the Hague for their moral and material supports.
